YMCA of Metro North – Lynn Branch

3 Month Free Membership For School Year 2015-2016

This letter entitles you to a free 3 month high school membership at the Lynn YMCA located at 20 Neptune Blvd., Lynn, MA. It is our goal to help all high school students incorporate healthy exercise habits into their lifestyle. This letter may only be used one time throughout your 4 years of High School, after that, students may continue coming by purchasing a high school membership – payment options are available. Youth must register on or by the last day of school/June 30, 2016.

Present this letter at the Lynn YMCA on any Monday or Wednesday afternoon by 3:30pm. The orientation begins at 3:30pm. Please bring this letter and a student ID or other photo ID. If you come on a day/time other than what is listed above you will be asked to return on another day.

High School activities included for free with membership:

  • Life Guard Prep Course with free certification and summer job opportunities!
  • Professional Music Studio with the latest recording technology
  • LOL “Open Mic” Nights (every 3rd Friday of the month)
  • Open Gym in the Celtic’s themed Basketball Court renovated by the Boston Celtics
  • HS Volleyball Team (Tuesdays 6p-7p)
  • Volunteer Opportunities (15+)
  • Fitness Center Weight and Cardio Machines (2p-5p weekdays and 12p-7p on Saturday)
  • HS Swim Team Prep (Tuesdays and Thursdays 4:30p-5:30p)
  • Lynn YMCA Swim Team
  • Recreational Swim Time/Swim Lessons
  • Water Fitness Classes
  • Group Exercise Classes (Zumba) or Spin Class
  • Indoor Track
  • Study Group and Computer Access

Lynn Youth Council | 2016-2017

The Lynn Youth Council invites applications to become a Youth Councilor.  New Councilors will begin their duties in January, 2017. The Youth Council consists of up to 18 members, selected from male and female applicants aged 12 – 19 in each of the city wards and at-large.  Candidates who are able to make the Youth Council their top extracurricular priority are preferred. 

GOALS:

  • Empower youth as a positive voice in the community
  • Seek input from youth regarding city issues and civic concerns
  • Promote youth participation in problem-solving and policymaking
  • Enlist youth support for city initiatives
  • Provide youth with direct experience of governance processes
  • Raise the image of youth in the city of Lynn

ELIGIBILITY:

  • Residence in Lynn
  • Age 12–19, in Middle School, High School or GED program.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Meet weekly on Thursdays from 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm. Meetings will be about 1 hour long and located at the LYNN YMCA.
  • Join at least one Youth Council sub-committee and meet at agreed upon times.
  • Attend a minimum of 2 school committee meetings and 2 City Council meetings each year.
  • If available, participate in summer civic engagement project.
  • Participate in training, orientation and other activities.
  • Conduct research, discuss issues and represent peers.
  • Meet with and make recommendations to the City Council and School Committee.

Serve for a one or two year term as determined appropriate by the advisors and selection committee.

APPLICATION PROCESS:

  • Completed application forms are due no later than December 23rd, and must include a letter of recommendation from an adult, such as a teacher, coach or principal.
  • Only complete applications will be considered.
  • The written portion of the application will be judged anonymously and candidates will be selected to interview with the selection committee.
